Hi folks

I have a bixby an its just to loud for me. I love the stove it works great, but before I purchase another stove I was wondering if we could get together an get some db readings.

I thinking Omega or M55 an kicking the bixby to the barn.

Here are some EPA recommendation's.

Inside buildings yearly Ldn levels protect public health and welfare if they do not exceed 45 dB.

Don't think too many people on the forum have a db meter. Your better off going to the dealers and listen to them run yourself.

I've been hoping to find a noise rating for stoves for a while - Nothing available

What I have learned is some rules of thumb:

1) Bixby stoves are among of the noisiest around

2) The new Enviro stoves are surprisingly quiet (I am not certain what that means. I guess they are quieter than the buyer expected)

3) The Quadra-fire MT Vernon AE and the AustroFlamm free standing stoves are dead silent (not certain about the inserts)

4) Inserts usually are noisier than the same free standing stove. Sometimes MUCH noisier.

I am sure there is one person in New england with db reader that would be willing to run from house to house. We would need the reading from high burn.

I can say after burning dozens of pellet stoves that the Europa ( I know I know, I sell them) is the quietest stove I've ever encountered. If you want to PM me, I can try to find you a local dealer to hear one at. It's also multi fuel, will heat the same as the Bixby and use 30-40% less fuel. The battery back up is the icing on the cake.

It definitely seems inserts are louder. At least with Harman stoves they are. I have an insert and I have 2 other friends that have Harman free standing stoves. It seems like a big difference to me. Even when the blower is at half way it is way too loud to watch tv in the same room. I keep it on low until we go to bed and then raise it up a bit.

If I get the db meter from work I'll get you some numbers.

What I got on the M55 and the Vista Flame VF 55 is 40 - 45 dB (at 10 ft. away). I can't find anything for the Omega, But its very quite. I can only hear it in the room the stove is in. Even on max it is not over powering. Sorry I don't have access to a DB meter to give you any readings. But would if I could.

I've never taken a reading on my stove although it is louder than i would like for it to be. The loudest noises is the exaust or combustion fan. Once in awhile we get a little 60hz hum.

Sorry I am not going by anyone opinon anymore, if you do not make your db reading public I am not buying your stove.

I am sick of old deaf sales man telling me I hearing things. Would you buy a stove with out know the BTU rating, it's hot trust me. Yeah right!

Edit:

An another thing I not buying unless you make you overall efficiency rating Public to.

There......

Nothing woodsmans, that's a note to the manufactures.

I am not a salesman. The info I posted is right on the Enviro site. Look at the brochure on page 4.

http://www.enviro.com/fireplace-products/pellet/freestanding-fireplace.html#m55

Click the brochure: (I tried to post link but the stupid site software didn't like it. I wish they would fix that crap!)

Check were it says quites on the market!

OK your on your own! Maybe buy a meter and do your own testing at a DEALERSHIP!

Buy a rock there real quite funny guy! You will never hear it at all!

LOL!

If I lived in the area where there was some dealers I would. Nothing against you or any body else, but there need to be a standard set. I am happy that enviro put out some data on it with that an some info from the iburncorn an eneenigering toolbox I found out that 70db will cause you to go deaf. My stove is right there. If you feel that should no be subject to debate good. Seeya but dont mislead anyone else. The responcable thing to do would be a roundup.

You are in my ignored catagory. No help will ever be provided by this member to any issue you have!

Bye!

I did post my finding there to. I am just doing what if feel is responsible. It has nothing to do with my situation all I have to do is turn on the furnace.

Sorry you feel that way.

Sorry you feel that way.

Adjust the way you go about things and you will get better results. What your asking isn't easily obtained by the average stove user(me included). Go to Enviro's site and use the contact. Ask the question nicely. and maybe you will get your answer. Go there to huff and puff. You will get no where fast. Plus not many manufactor's hang out here. Except Mike from Englander. This site is just us average stove users. Take your fight to the factory reps.

I had a few questions about my stove before purchase. They answered within a few days. Also do the same with some other stove manufactor's to compare the levels.

Honestly, The average furnace produce noise just like a pellet stove. But there in the basement so not as noticable. The circulator on my mom's boiler makes enough racket to wake the dead. If having a noisy stove bothers you don't get one or move it into another room where the noise doesn't effect you.

Or are you really here just to muk with us pellet stove users Mr CoBurner?

I dont think i'm going to buy another stove this year. What I would like is one of the hearth trade groups do a review of there stove standards so the public can make an informed dicision.

Maybe you can take it from here. Do to the fact that I am gramiticly chalanged and it tends to piss people off.

hey WayneCo......here's a chart I used to help me pick out and understand how loud our new dishwasher would be....... believe it or not, they have ratings on sound output in dba...... interestingly ours had a rating of 53 dba and when it is washing, you have to look at its lights to see that it is running from 7 feet away (very pleased with it) ...... just using 53 as a comparison in noise ..... the chart says 60 is 'ordinary conversation'......... hope this helps more in understanding noise levels and your pursuit of getting a quieter stove....... cc ;-)

I do have to agree though that since (pellet) stoves are used as center pieces in many homes that manufacturers should provide max sone or db ratings for their stoves.

Just my 2 cents...

I love my Honda generator, but it doesn't throw as much heat as the Harman and stinks up the living room.

LOL! For what it's worth, My Mt. Vernon AE sits in my living room, and I do have to turn up the TV when it is cranking. I could turn it down to a lower heat output, but I bought the stove to keep me warm and that's what it does.
