I've been burning for 5 years, never had a clinker till this season. I really didn't know what one was reading about them here last season. This may sound stupid, but could this be a problem with stove? The entire top of the wear plate gets covered. Just pulled one out 3 3/4 long, 2 1/2 in. wide and over 1/2 in. thick. I've burned Somerset, Pre-to-log, AWF, and Pennington Nature's Heat and they all seem to produce them to some extent.

Guess it's like gettin' pregnant, huh?

I'm getting very large clinkers from the Treecycles I'm currently burning. I've been burning a bag or two here and there of Firesides and Winter Wamth (which I love) and haven't had any clinkers with those two brands. I got a dirty burn from the Firesides but no clinkers. I burned a bag of Somersets a while ago but didn't get any clinkers with it...was a bit ashy though. It might just be the pellets. Can you get a hold of any other "premium" brand?

These are the only brands I've found in my area. I don't think pellet stoves are popular around here yet I know only 2 people that own them and neither as their primary heat source. If I would drive much further, it probably wouldn't be worthwhile. Never seen a real lignetic, Barefoot, Okie, etc. Mostly natural gas region.

Have you tried messing with the air rate? I usually run my stove at 4-6/9/1 depending on the pellets. I'm not sure if that would make a difference or not....probably wouldn't hurt though.

Hammer has 2 plants in WV. Are you sure you can't find any of the Hamer Hotones around?

I do live in WV, but in the northern panhandle, almost even with Pittsburgh laterally. I will look up that brand now for local distributers. The one local stove shop doesn't sell pellets. Not sure he sells many stoves, more of a pool and spa guy, I'll have to drop in and look around sometime, it's been a while.Just looked up Hamers, they are 4 hours drive away. I'm closer to Kinsman than that. I had to email them for a list of dealers, none listed on site. Thanks.

It's a CLINKER!!

Ahhhhhm ... what?.......

after the 5th-7th day on, my pot starts to get clogged and not push the ash out then it just builds up.

if i leave it ill get a super clinker, but this is due to ash building up in the air chamber under the pot (top feed).

Try Cal Cuthbert Pools in Bellvernon ,PA 15012 1-724-929-4690 he may still have some Okies in Stock . Their around 30 -40 miles into Pa from the panhandle area

Thanks, BTU but an 80 mile round trip is a little much.

I'm getting these supers after 6-8 hours.

I pulled a "super clinker" of my own last eve. Result of a Okanagan/NEWP mix (2 bags over 2 days).

Werm,

It is sorta like saying sometimes it takes time.

You just need to look at it from all possible angles. Maine humor and Mainers' comments can be very terse and dry at times.

He!!, you are worse than a flatlander, you is from away, and even worse than that, you is from the land of the Flop Sox.

Just below my avatar it says Standish ME, that's wheres abouts enough I think.

If I gets me a good angle I can almost spit into the big lake up heah. But I'm getting to old to do it now, can't quite make the 2,000 feet anymore.

"Sir...Have you been mixing your pellets tonight"..."I'm going to have ask you to step into the other room, so we can give you a pellet test. Are you mixing a hardwood with a softwood?. Did you know that doing that could be dangerous to the overall burning experience? Are you aware that mixing two totally difference wood pellets can cause your stove to react in a manner that you are not used too?....Let this be a lesson to you Sir....I'm going to let you off with a warning this time....but consider yourself lucky, you could have ended up with a colder house and a mad wife and crying kids...and I don't think you would like that....please use pellets responsibly and have a nice evening.."...................... ;-)

But officer, I....I...was just using the stove for a friend, er...ah my wife..ah she was unable to...so I...but wait..this is my first time.

Ahh Sebago, I love that whole area. I'm a bit partial to Long Lake but I would'nt pass up on land anywhere around there.

I've got 3 of those that size sitting next to my stove. I knew there was a reason those Penningtons Nature's Heat were only $3.85 per bag! Grabbed some AWF for $4.36 today. I'll pay the extra .50 to get away from the monsters.

I have the same stove as j00fek and I am getting this after every 2 bags of NEWP. I burn a bit over a bag a day. This did not happen with Natures Own from Lowes last year. I seem to have a cleaner burn with this years NEWP though. A little baffled...
