Feeling the Heat

VERY HOT....just about through my 2nd bag and what a difference from the lignetics I was burning. usually when i get up in the morning the burn pot is packed with ash, with the OKIE"S it looks like it's been burning for only a few hours.....I also don't run the stove on the same setttings, the OAKIE"S allow me to turn the stove temp dial from 4.5, 5 during the night to 3.5, thus making a bag go longer.....GREAT PELLET!

X1

These burn Hotter Than Hell !!!! I actually had to turn the stove DOWN Sat evening because it was too warm upstairs.
Never had that with the Green Teams, even with the warmer 35 deg temps.

I've read a lot about Okanagan's here, of course, and I'm curious...

BTU, do you know if they are available in Atlantic Canada (New Brunswick in particular)?

I have a feeling not...we tend to export all our good stuff :)

I've burned about a ton of them, am currently burning Cubex, which has a great reputation, but I had to turn my stove up to get the same
results. Once I'm thru the Cubex, its all Okie's for me. Its worth the price on those really cold nights.

I have to agree with all the great things said about Okanagan pellets. I bought 2.6 tons this summer and have never looked back. I tried some different pellets this weekend and they could not compare to the heat and overall satisfaction of burning these pellets. I have read on this forum about price, and all I can say is it took 1 1/2 bags of maine woods pellets to produce the same heat output of 1 bag of Okanagans. To me it is a no brainer..

Does anyone know if Okanagan pellets are available in Upstate NY?

Awesome!!!, i'm running my stove on 1!!!!, 2 is too hot!!, my house has never been so warm!, were talking living room temps near 80 with my Whitfield running on 2, last night i went to bed early wife was up late like 2am, and i woke up and it was too warm!, had to lower to 1, and the ash is very low, never seen my glass stay so clean so long...Okies ROCK!!
Downside is the dust factor when dumping the bag, otherwise and the real xmas smell..........last yr i got a real tree for another room, after 15 yrs using a fake tree the real one smelled like a old cigarette, now my house smells like xmas!

We have to thank BTU for bringing them over to the east coast!!

More dust and more heat?

Post away. No one can hold anything against you for telling it like it is. Facts, man, facts. ;-)

Where are you in Upstate NY?

The Finger Lakes area. Ithaca, elmira, watkins, geneva, waterloo, seneca falls, auburn.

My wife made the same observation this morning. We had been burning the Lignetics and I had to empty the burn pot almost daily. We switched to the Oakies three days ago and I just shut the stove down for a cleaning. The burn pot was not full. I could have gone another day anyways.

In my opinion, the Cubex are every bit as good (as far as the burnpot is concerned) and give off about the same heat, maybe a tad more. (remember, your results may very)

I've had the same experience with the Bear Mountain's I just bought... the house is two to four degrees warmer than when I burn the Uncle Jed's that I have used for two seasons.

The Bear Mountains are 95% fir and 5% western red cedar... great pellets and very, very little ash. I had one bag of UJ's left but tonite, with temps around 10F, I opted to run more Bear Mountains...

thanks, im packing up my daughter and running out the door.. thanks!

This past summer the mill purchased a new dryer and it got installed early fall. Now since the mill only gets its fiber from a local sawmill (planner shavings), the wood is kiln dried to start with, so the fiber is extremely clean and fluffy when received. The mill has been doing some more "tweaking" to find that perfect fit. With the extra drying that they have been able to do, the moisture content has been getting down to numbers of 3-3.5% which is extremely dry, thus the even higher burning temps...That's a good thing. But because of this it may cause pellet to be dustier than what we would really like to see sometimes...so the tweaking is an ongoing process... Since the vast majority of our clients tell us they buy the pellet mainly for the heat that is what we are trying to squeeze every last bit out of the pellet. We are fortunate to start with really good fiber, no bark and a product that leaves little ash. Hopefully what we are trying to do is make an even better product, but just like anything ...it may take some time to figure out the perfect recipe...Thanks again for all your support....... :)

Hey BTU

Tweeking a product to find that sweet spot. Makes sense. The heat that these pellets put out is very hot. In fact, Hoter Than Hell from what I have found ;-) . The house has been much warmer than my last brand. Fluffy ash; very clean burn; no, or very little, carbon in the burn pot. No clinkers at all.

These days, money is hard earned and I need the best bang for my buck. I dont have so much time at home these days and I am willing to pay a little more for a product that can give me better results with less care of the stove. That is one of the reasons I bought a Harman. I would love a stove that cost me less up front and that I could "tinker" with on the settings, that is the mechanic side of me. But these days as an Operations Manager, not so much time at home to tend to something like that.

Will I try other brands? Of course, as an informed consumer I would be crazy not to. That incudes Dragons and the newer batches of Okies from Home and Hearth in Hampton, NH as well as Spruce Points.

If this is any indicator, these Okies have me sold on softwood.

BUT, this has been my first round with the Okies and has become my "benchmark" for other brands to compare to. :)

Thanks for the update. It's much appreciated!!!!!!

Okanagan is a good pellet.

Thanks to BTU I went to BJ's wholesale club this morning and picked up 4 bags. I had to pay a 15% surcharge because I am not a member. They were $4.99 a bag but a sign said if you buy a whole pallet 65 bags you will receive a $20.00 discount bring the cost per bag to $4.65. You have to have a membership but I think my friend has one i can use. Any way the big box store average is $4.58 per bag for brands such as freedom fuel, clean fuel, stove chow, penningtons, fireside ultra, american wood fibers. so to find a superior pellet for only 7 cents per bag more is insane! I cant wait to test okanagan's out but first I think I should burn these test bags of stove chow pennigntons and fireside. I also noticed at Lowes they had AWF for $4.58 a bag and greene team for 5.98 a bag. I thought that was odd

Longtime lurker here and I have to know...Where can I get Okanagan's in MA or Southern NH??

Thanks much!

Check with Home and Hearth in Hampton.

that's a very good price, if BT lowers their price like this I'd buy another ton.

It's surprising that they are selling the Okies for less than the other pellets. Just wish they were a lot closer to me!

I too bought from Squier Sat, they said at the time they had 120 1.3 ton pallets, if they dont sell them by april they will be on sale even lower i'm sure.
8 Tons?, delivered?

Dodges Agway in Hampton Falls has Oakies for $249 a ton. Last time I was there, they had plenty. The number there is 603-926-7471

They are very knowledgeable and friendly. They heat the showroom with an Astoria.
