I cracked the ceramic glass just now

I have a few broken pieces of glass on my stove (its 17"by7" viewing door is made up of 1" pieces.) I've been burning it for a few weeks like this but wouldn't recomend it. My father in law has been burning his for years with the glass broken. We have both rigged up pieces of tin against the glass. My stove is lees efficient with the broken glass but I've gotten it tight enough as to prevent overfiring. I would replace it as soon as possible. Your owner's manual probably says NEVER TO BURN IT WITH BROKEN WINDOW. My window also serves as a secondary air intake. When the glass is cold it shrinks letting more air in, the hotter it gets the less air it allows in due to expansion.

Depends on the crack, if the glass is still secure no rattling then I would use the stove.

I had the same problem. I uses furnace cement to seal the crack and have been burning for two weeks with no problems. Glass just came in . Will replace it when I clean out the stove. Be careful to watch to make sure no air leaks.

I paid $128 for approx the same size. What stove you have?

I'm sure glad I have andirons to protect my glass. :cheese:
