Hello,

I'm just looking for feedback on what you think about the state of this chimney and the type of mortar it uses. I bought the house recently and it was built in the 1950s. It looks like the mortar was repaired using some mortar that definitely doesn't match up color wise with the original. There is some cracking and gaps in the mortar in spots and there are three blocks that have vertical cracks in them...one at the top and two that are next to each other near the bottom. My questions are:

What type of mortar does it look like is there and how would you go about matching it?
How concerning are the three cracks blocks and how would you go about addressing them?

Is that solid stone, or.a stone veneer...? I suspect the latter.

The cracks could still be there because of cracks in the underlying structure. It needs to be inspected by a professional, I'd say

It looks like coarse river sand and light gray or white mortar. Hard to tell just from pics
