So I went to order some Uncle Jeds Douglas Fir pellets and they don't have any, nor do they know when they will get any. They now have Western Elite, which they say are (almost)comparable to Bear Mountain. Has anyone burned these??

Not much info on people actually burning them, but they ARE made from Douglas Fir, which is one of the BEST woods to make pellets from.

Maybe BTU has some info on them???

I bought a ton this year.
Also a ton of jeds pine and marth hardwood(shoulder pellets).
don't know anything bout em. cant be bad being doug fir.
and they're cheaper then jeds fir and bear mtn.
just be glad ur in the midwest cause they cost alot more elsewhere.

I would say its a safe bet that Western Elite are better than 2/3 of the pellets I have available in my area. And a few of those are coming from the west. Marth being a shoulder pellet out your way is in the upper range my way. Trying to use them as the "gauge". Wish I could try some of the great stuff from your way someday.

The Only Douglas fir pellet near me is Blazers from West Oregon Wood Products(still to much to travel for them). I can also get Armstrong SPF softwoods from the same dealer. Are these available out your way and if so could you try to grade them? On second though maybe you would be better not too. I might just be sick about it!

http://www.woodpelletsexperts.com/pricing.html To far for me to travel there. If I ever get out that way I want to get a few bags to sample for the forum. But its probably not going to happen this year.

On occasion you might see the Blazers at a local HD. But I haven't seen them in a few years so don't count on that one!

One thing you could do depending on location is talk to BT Ent. in Bristol CT. The owners name is Brian and he had mentioned he could get some of the Western brands. If we get enough enlisted he might get a truck load. But things might have changed. All we could do is ask him. http://www.btpellet.com/

Talked to one of the tech's at my dealer and he pretty much said they are NOT Bear Mountains, but are still a fairly clean pellet. I will try a few bags of these, but am going to get a ton of regular Uncle Jeds to use curb season and will burn the ton of Bear Mountain I still have from last season for the cold months.

Ive bought from BT for many years, even Bought my Oakies from him last season. Years ago BT was the only large dealer in the state. Now they are poping up all over the place. Not sure how many CT folks are on or be interested, but Id consider a ton or so of a Doug fir pellet, if it wasnt too ridiculously expensive. Im just getting ready to start hoarding, and Ive seen some hAMMERS AT 230 AND oAKIES @250.

Don't forget the Cubex-Northern-Comfort At $235. Heck of a pellet for that money. When things balance out this fall the Okies will probably be in the running. Might want to think about starting the purchasing. I will bet you with oil on the rise we will see some price jumping on many brands here quickly. But this is just guessing on my part though. My supply is full for now! I was done in April.

I would be interested in a ton of the dougies too! We just need 20 others to join us! Probably best to start a new thread though!
