My Whitfield advantage III seems to be burning a lot of pellets, I have no complaints about the heat output tho. On setting 4 or 5 it seems to go threw a bag in less then 8 hrs? It seems that on reading the forum it should last abt 12hrs per bag at maximum setting. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The burn time will vary with the type/brand of pellets. Try experimenting with 3 or 4 bags each of different brands.

I believe there a combo hard and soft wood, there New England Wood Pellets-Jaffrey plant

Newp's are middle of the road pellet's and should give a 12 hour burn rate in your stove at a lower feed setting of 3. Raising the feed rate will drop the time it takes to burn thru a bag! You could try a different pellet that has a bit more heat, But if you have to raise the feed rate the usauge will again rise depending on what setting the stove is set at.

You stated the feed rate is presently at 4 or 5 and we aren't even in the coldest part of the season yet. So I have a couple of questions as far as how tight the house is and insulation state? What temps are you keeping the house at presently? And do you use a thermostat with the stove?

Why you burning so high?, It's not even winter!!, I would NEVER burn my Whit on a 5!!, asking for a possible fire, on #1-2 it last's a bag a day, so 8 hr's is normal.

Hello I see you are from So.New Hampshire as I am (Plaistow) so our weather conditions for the last week should be about the same.I come home at 4:00P.M. and light my Harman Advance, It will go into high burn for about 45 Min. and bring the house temperature up from 62 Deg. To 70-72.At 9:00P.M. I will shut the stove off for the night. For seven days of doing this I used about 3 bags of pellets (Okanagan). 5 hours a night times 7 nights=35 hours run time. 3 bags used Is about 12 hours per bag which Is about right. I just did a 15 Min. clean and got 3 Oz. of ash. I would think that running your stove on 5 would make your house way to hot as the temps. here last week were not all that cold

setting 5 on the Adv III is about 5 lbs per hour....sounds like its normal.

Two things you might want to try.

Turn the stove feed rate down and close the damper a bit.

Hello again, I only ran it on 4 and 5 when it was in the 20's one night to see what heat output I got. Normally I run it on 2 or 3 and my stove is in the living room, there it stays around 77-80 the rest of the down stairs stays around 72-74, upstairs (my wife and I don't like it hot in the bedroom) it stays around 68-70. We have a 2300 sqft colonial which I continue to insulate year by year. At the number 3 setting it gets abt 12-14hrs on a bag. Its when you up the setting it goes down, as you said. Sorry, first year Ive burned a pellet stove, so I have a few dumb questions.

Never considered dumb questions, More like learning curves! :) Now if you find a brand of pellets that gives 12 plus hours burn time and keeps the house in the 80's when the temps outside are low. Please be sure to share that brand with "US"! :)

Don't forget to play with that damper a bit, it can make a lot more heat available to the heat exchanger if it isn't helping push it out the venting, just don't back it down so far you get a lazy fire.
