Hey, lighten up, folks. Everything is not government conspiracy. We have 1/10th the population of the US and therefore 1/10 the domestic market. There are market forces at play.
I dont buy that.Corny said:Hey, lighten up, folks. Everything is not government conspiracy. We have 1/10th the population of the US and therefore 1/10 the domestic market. There are market forces at play.

What that has to do with anything? You like to be gouged?I'm happy where I am. I wish you the same.

Thats what I like to hear.Corny said:Amaralluis said:What that has to do with anything? You like to be gouged?
Nope. I'm burning corn this year for significantly less than what you pay for pellets. Different product. Different market. Not even any taxes. Best wishes. -- Corny
I don't think that I can burn corn ,I would have to change my chimney . But I like that you are doing that .I have been buying pellets from people that have gone back to wood and other fuels and saving a bit that way .I do wish I could burn corn .Corny said:Amaralluis said:What that has to do with anything? I don't know how many ,but some States have sales tax as well .I know Minnesota and Texas for sure . Personally I don't think there should be sales tax onSmokeyTheBear said:Excell said:... plus tax 12%

Thank you I go to Steinbach occasionally .I will pick up a few to try .BTU said:Excell said:I have been reading this forum ,and see you are paying $225.00 for pellets that come from Canada . I can not find anything in Winnipeg for less than $300.00 per ton plus 12% tax . This doesn't make sense .Some one is stuffing money in there pockets . Not only that but the pellets that are made in Winnipeg turn my glass black and don't give as much heat . Winnipeg forest products ,not bad for heat but dirty . Prairie pellet co ,no heat and dirty . We also have very limited choice for buying them .
I may have to drive 60 miles to pick up some hardwoods ,made in US .I won't save much but at least I will be warm .
We are not right in Winnipeg but have 3 dealers in the area
Oughton Pellet Stove Stonewall, MB 204 467-5688
C.T. Loewen Steinbach 204 326-3481
Lewis & Sons Austin 204 637-2277 May be too far from Winnipeg
Good luck.........
quite a few countries wave taxes on exports, look at Europe and the VAT taxes, they don't charge them on exports to try and even the field for exporters. I don't know if Canada has a VAT or not but I would bet the "hidden" taxes are higher compared to US that businesses have to pay.mascoma said:rowerwet said:your higher price is tied to the price for fuel in all the stages of pellet making and transport, part of the reason pellet prices follow the price of oil, from the chainsaw/skidder that cuts the tree, trucks that move them, electricity costs for the mill that process the tree, plastic in the bags, to the trucks that move the tons to you, oil is still very involved. You can thank the higher taxes of Socialism for much of that, taxes on heat fuel is just the final kick in the teeth.
Other than taxes on final product, your argument is bunk if the same product is less when purchased in US, no?
yknotcarpentry said:heck here in Maine heating fuel is not taxable at all. But in turn think of this, I go into the emergency room for a very minor procedure and with a great health insurance policy that I pay $2000 a year for for the family still cost me $1200....the price you just paid for in taxes on pellets up there in CANANDA just paid for three heart transplants and two blown out knees for some old guys hauling 40# bags of pellets to thier basement.....
