I have a Morso 5660 fireplace insert without a blower, central chimney on a bungalow. I use it for ambience and warmth only woodburners understand. I am very surprised that this insert can effectively eliminate my furnace being called on. With a fan blowing into the room the heat is circulated reasonably but the bedrooms are a lacking somewhat. They still hover around 67 degrees while the living area is 73 plus. I run it 12 hours a day when home.
Here are my questions about temps:
I can't check flue temps since it's an insert. With a laser therm the interior of the box is 500-600 plus, and the top of the door is externally around 350. What concerns me is the stone above the fireplace is hot as one might expect and drops off as the distance from the insert increases but it is still 130 degrees at 25 inches above the insert. Is this concerning? The same applies to the hearth in front of the insert. Similar temps 130-170 closer to the door. The door is 10 inches plus above the floor of the hearth. I have attached a photo for visual context. The picture is 25 inches above the door.
The interior walls behind the insert are not warm so there is no conduction through the wall. The chimney is clay tile lined with a SS liner (no insulation, no block off plate).
I am just a little paranoid about running this insert. It was "professionally" installed. I am burning seasoned wood I purchased well over a year in advance from advice on this forum. All of it is 15 to 18 percent or less on the moisture meter. This insert is impressive when firing.
