I have quadrafire fireplace insert, 25 foot exterior brick chimney with a 6" SS liner with a cap on top. Been burning wood for 4-5 years and never saw this before. Up until about two weeks ago I had to shovel the ash out of the insert every 2 or 3 days. Since then, there is very little ash in my stove every morning. I assume it is going out the chimney which is not a problem, but I don't want it creating another problem. I cleaned the chimney right before the burning season started and got my usual amount of soot out of the chimney. Is this something to worry about or just enjoy not having to clean up ashes???

Darn Ash thieves. I hate it when that happens

Using different wood? Is it seasoned longer this year, therefore dryer? Other than that, no clue. Sorry

Setup a web cam and try to get a pic of the elusive ash fairy.

I have the same situation the past few days. Live in tenn with a Big Jack furnace in garage. Getting wood from same pile but the last
couple days the ash in pan has dropped to a very low level from previous days. The wood is seasoned but not exactly dry as the
pile is outside uncovered. Mostly Oak cut about two years ago.

Maybe that big fat man took some on his way out?

That is a strange thing but if you have switched the type of wood you burn it could be the answer. One extreme example would be perhaps you were burning popple and switched, say, to oak. You certainly would not get as many ashes then.

the wood is mixed, pine, polar, oak, maple, cherry, split and dried for 1-2 years. As long as I don't have a problem I am happy I don't have to shovel ash.
thanks

As I get older I can never find my ash.
People often tell me "You don't know your ash from a hole in the ground". %-P

It could be age appropriate dimentia... just not remembering taking out the ashes or that "ash" is the name for it. Pretty soon I will be able to hide my own Easter eggs if I can even remember that they're called eggs.

OH Noes!! You have underpa.. er... Ash Gnomes!!!

Phase 1: collect ash
Phase 2: ???
Phase 3: Profit
