With apologies to those who may be suffering, here in Boston (where I'm visiting), it seems to be about the most hyped thing I've seen (I knew we did that down south, but Boston ?!?). Yesterday, they were talking blizzard, white out, etc. At NO point would have it been unsafe to walk around Boston in the last 24 hours. The TV station says there was 16.5" of snow (as of just now), but walking on the street, it's implausible that there's more than a foot.

If it is so pleasant then go have a picnic on the beach. Most storms look harmless from the warm side of the window. I has rode out a couple of hurricanes down in sneads ferry nc, they would not stop talking about the storm, seemed pretty hyped and harmless from the couch i was sitting on.

Sorry to touch a nerve. I surely didn't mean to suggest it's "pleasant"; I simply meant to say that the snow outside here is nowhere near 16" deep, and that you could always see lights that were at least 1/4 mile away.

I think one thing that tends to happen with storms is that only a small fraction of people see its full ferocity, and there may be many other people who are quite nearby and think they did but really did not. Maybe this happened with your hurricanes. And I'm sure if I had been out on Cape Cod last night, even on my couch, the 80mph gusts would have commanded my full attention !

The storm was so strong it developed banding, if you got under a band you got buried, if you didnt you got off easy. The main banding split east and west, most of the heavier snows were in New Jersey, New York, another heavy band sw of Boston where there was close to two feet. That combined with wind and the tides made for a dangerous storm but the locations were spotty. I got off easy with 8 inches and was forecasted 14-22 in, not complaining as cleanup was much easier.

I've never seen winds this fierce in a snowstorm. It sounds like a freight train. Branches and trees down everywhere,

I opened the door of the PE for a reload last night and got a scarey "whoosh". Good times.

Finished up here in western Monmouth County by Freehold with approx 30 inches.. Drifts by this morning much higher. The plow stuff at the end of my drive was around 5 ft!! It was a tough job for the snow blower..

50 mph hour wind here as well real bad storm my rd is not plowed due to abandoned cars and stuck plows and plows needed to help in emergencies. power went out twice last night old jotul has been running non stop...

Only 6 inches as of 8 a.m. this morning . . . but pretty windy and it’s still coming down. Plowed once . . . will plow again this afternoon or early evening. As a reminder . . . I believe blizzards do not necessarily mean having lots of snow, but rather snow and high winds which significantly reduce visibility . . . however I could be wrong . . . I’m not a weather guesser—just a dumb firefighter . . . who enjoys the snow and who is thinking with this storm next weekend may mean open trails for sledding.

Your right Jake, as long as you have 1/4 mile visibility or less and 35 mph winds for 3 hours thats a blizzard.
I always have a months worth of wood inside just in case. We lost power for 3 hours and my princess did ok without the blower, kept the main room its in about 70-72 and the upstairs at 64. I had to really shut her down so she wouldnt overheat.

no nerve was touched here, they tend to hype the chit out of any winter storm around here, its really annoying. they claimed 12-18 inches of snow for us in NH, i would guess there is no more then 10 inches of snow that fell here. When i woke up early this morning and looked out the window it was pretty intense, but that didnt last long. honestly the bitter cold and wind chills right now seam worse then the entire "blizzard" itself

Got somewhere between 12 -18" here (it's hard to tell with all the drifts lol). Plowed yesterday mornin and gave up due to the winds. Went back in early this mornin and got the plow truck stuck 3 times in drifts up to the headlighs! What a mess that was. But the white stuff sure is purdy...

You guys in central and coastal NJ really got the worst of this storm.

Out my way - we got 6-10 inches, but it was so hard to tell because of the unbelievable wind. I had places in the yard where it was blown to bare grass and drifts waist deep in other parts. Sadly - my driveway bottom was about 30 feet of need deep to waist deep snow. I'm still aching from shoveling.

Seriously - my whole house rocked with the wind. I had put plastic up on the drafty windows and that stuff didn't survive the 60 mph winds. My big SS grill on my deck got blown all the way down the deck and steps. I had to go out and strap it down.
Conditions were total white out.

Supposed to be 49 by friday. Wow.
