We never Have to let the furnace run if we don't want it to. The stove is plenty capable of heating the entire house up to at least 68 degrees at the end of a 9 hour burn cycle. Even when we had below zero temperatures here a few days ago. The oil man is not here but twice a year.

We get 100 gallons in November and 100 gallons in May. That's with 6 people taking showers in my house and all the hot water needed to wash dishes and laundry for a family of six! I must admit, I have let the furnace kick on more often than last year. I've been lazy some weekends and didn't feel like loading the stove 10 hours after the last load was put in. Pre-wood stoves, we used to get at least 400 gallons per heating season. Not counting at least 100 during the warm season. The conclusion is we save at least 300 gallons per year or about $1000 per year burning wood. I wish I could somehow connect a water line to the stove and send it to a storage tank. Then I could almost eliminate the oil consumption altogether.

I love seeing the oil delivery kid. He's really nice, I usually go next door and talk to him when he's filling up the neighboors tank about once a month. :)

BTW My furnace is about 12 years old, not sure if they where running 140psi pumps then. Should it say on the pump somewhere?

Hard to say what psi your running, the pressure is adjustable on most pumps. best way to tell is stick a pressure gauge on the pump, sticker on the side of the pump should tell you the proper plug to test.

I just thought you might like the nozzle pressure info if thats the way your keeping track of fuel usage.

I do appriciate that, I thought since it says .85/ hour that's what it'd be.

BTW Don't they charge you guys sevice charges for less than minimum gallons? Out here where people who still use fuel oil is very few and far between every one wants you to buy at least 150 gallons or they'll charge you a delivery fee anywhere between $25-$50. Also Is it cheaper for you to run your waterheaters on oil than electric? I didn't even know they still had oil fired water heaters.
