The 45° Pellet Vent Pro elbow I purchased had RTV smeared on each connection of the inner liner.

Huh, actual RTV sealant on fresh pipe?

My stove has been working GREAT! But the other day I shut it down to clean it and the smoke thing happened again... UGHHH
After the stove had cooled down and shut off completely I opened it and smoke came billowing out!! There seemed to some pellets still burning in the firepot and parts of the stove seemed pretty hot too! Are pellets supposed to drop into the firepot during shutdown mode? Also, when you shut the stove down should the draft be pulled out all the way or pushed in all the way. Thanks!

I had the same problem with pellets dropping into the burn pot on shutdown.my stove is a USSC 5510.i'm not sure how your stove operates but mine has a switch on the hopper lid that shuts off the auger when it's open so i open the lid before i shut it down.that fixed my problem.like i said i'm not sure if yours has that set-up.

When shutting down a pellet stove you don't touch the draft. You make certain that you provide a means for the exhaust to exit the stove even with the blowers off when installing the stove.

About the burn pot if there is anything still left in the burn pot your draft was not properly set while burning, increase your draft slightly, or your stove is past the point at which it should have been cleaned.

Any pellets siting on the end of the drop chute can always be knocked into the burn pot if you manage to shake the stove while working on it. For instance dumping a bag of pellets into the hooper.

Just because the fans shut off, it doesn't mean the stove is cold enough to work on or that there aren't bits of burning or smoldering pellets.

Matt mine does the same thing. So when i shut mine down now the first thing i do is open the hopper lid then hit the off button. If you don't do this the stove keeps feeding pellets in the burn pot and you will get the smoldering pellets. I have no idea why usstove has these setup this way?
