I'm in the process of wiring my addition. As soon as it's wired, I can insulate it and install my stove - a Summit Classic. I already have the Chilton slate for the floor, and cultured river rock for the backdrop behind the stove. My question is - where do I put an outlet? I didn't get a blower with the stove, but there's always the possibility that I'll want one later.

For those of you with free standing stoves - if you were going to build your room from the ground up - where would you put the outlet? The wall behind the stove? The Floor? The wall beside the stove? I plan on putting a switch on the wall near the stove area to control this outlet.

Thanks in advance for any responses!

And yes - I will post pictures when I finally get to this stage of my little project.

On the wall. Stoves collect extraordinary amounts of dust and dirt and you don't want that stuff falling down into your outlet. There probably is a code provision for the location in the wall relative to a wood burning appliance.

I'd put the outlet behind and to the right of the stove. The switch is not limited by cord length so I would put it where it is most convenient to use near the stove.

We just had our home remodeled, (New Living room wall, remodeled kitchen, Deck, Porch, 1/2 bath, etc).............when our free standing wood stove was installed 2 years ago, we made sure in the renovation process, to have outlets on the back wall (Fire Retardant Dry Wall, by the way, with a brick wall backer behind the stove area), to the left and right of the stove (behind it).

The area behind the stove (especially with our EPA-rated newer stove) gets warm.........but doesn't reach the kind of temps that would threaten an outlet.

I'd estimated that we are about a foot and a half, .......perhaps two feet, to the left and right of the stove, and the stove sits about 15 inches or so (don't remember the Code requirement, but we made sure it complied at the time), from the wall behind it.

+1 I'd also put the outlet low, say 6" off the floor, to keep it as cool as possible.

I put an outlet where the stove will rest, low and to the right.
Did not have floor mount option as it is concrete under the laminate. I would have gone in the wall anyway.
