Sooo yesterday out of boredom due to the 6 inches of mud outside the family drove 45 minutes to the amish bakery and general store to pick a few things up and low and behold they started sellin PE stoves......Now normally I am not a sucker for a new stove as I'm kind of partial to my own however out habit my wife started her usual shopping routine and I headed for the woodstove display to check em out like ususal and that's where my troubles started. As soon as I walked into the display area I was immediatly drawn to this new gem of a stove that I had seen in pictures before a PE T5. They had this baby fired up and running and let me tell you what I was mesmerized the blower was going and it was sooooo quiet you could actually carry on a conversation while standing next to the stove without yelling. As i was standing there drooling on the floor the Amish guy (Shawn) who runs the place comes up and start telling me all the features, swing open cooktop, free floating firebox, easily removable refractory coated with stainless so teh refractory can't break.........Im thinking to myself my wife need sto hurry up and get over here she will be the voice of reason saying snap out of it we don't need it......She walks up and says wow that thing is gorgeous why can't we see the fire in ours like that, It would look great on our hearth, the color is awesome.....Now I can't sleep at night it's all I think about...I decided to post this here thinking it would be some sort of detox and get it out of my system so someone help talk me out of this please.....

Pretty sure you are in the wrong place to get talked out of a T5.

Sure I'll help talk you out of it.

Just let me set this ice cream cart up outside the weight watchers meeting...

Me thinks someone is getting a new stove today.....Well at least you slept on it.....

Dear Certified106,

Can't stop thinking about you. Give me a call or just drop by so we can be together.

Affectionately,

The PE T5 you were staring at today......:)

I checked one out last week. It was burning at the dealer. Nice looking stove but wouldn't work for me, no rear flue exit. How old is your stove? My glass stays clean except for some haze which I wipe off every few weeks.

No wonder the blower was so quiet it's because the Amish don't have electricity and blower was unplugged and powered by Elijah blowing through a hose behind a curtain.. No, he doesn't come with the stove you'll have to hire your own blower lol..

:cheese:

Hell, he's in the wrong place to be talked out of buying multiple stoves...

Sounds like a no brainer to me. If my wife said what yours did we would of left the shop with a new stove.

Now THAT is funny!

We should all have wives with a 'voice of reason' like that.

You don't really neeeeeed it

You don't really neeeeeed it.

You don't really neeeeeed it.

You don't really neeeeeed it.

You don't really neeeeeed it.

;-)

There: hows that for a voice of reason.

It will look so much nicer in your house ,go ahead you know you want to

Yeah especially when the wife is in agreement (because as a woman myself) I know we do tend to change our minds.....get to the stove shop asap man......

I decided to go with a Jotul 500 Oslo but I'm telling them PE T5's still really tempt me. The dealer said the glass on the PE's stay very clean. I think the floating firebox is really cool too. If you get that stove I'm sure you'll love it!

certified106, just think about all that money you'll spend. Think about the work involved getting the old one out and the new stove in. Will you have to "adjust your wood length"? You'll have to make sure the new connections mate up perfectly. Break-in fires. Learning a new stoves "personality".

Having said all of that...what color are you getting?

Lucky for me there is no way I can make it back down there before next saturday so I have a full week to agonize and research. I have always been a cat stove typde of guy so this would be a huge change for me which is kind of scary. one of the main reasons I went down there was to look at the vc 2 in1 but they sold it a couple of days before however they are getting a new one in three weeks that they said I can see. The other thing they said which I agree with is that I would really need the T6 due to the square footage I am heating and they have a floor model T6 which they have burnt in that they will sell in may for 600 off list price. Does anyone have experience with the EBT technology on the T6?

Thanks for all the help pushing me towards a new stove hahaha
Brotherbart do you think the vc would mak a good smoker haha

LMAO !
That said, my next stove will be a T5.
Maybe I'll rig up a hose/blower off my dog, that is always lying next to the stove, so I won't need to burn electricity ? lol

I love my Summit classic/T6. As to the EBT, it is merely a way for PE to pass emissions testing and still get the longest possible burn. You probably will never notice it working, unless you spend a lot of time with the ash drawer out looking up at it! My dad has a Super 27/T5 and both of us have enjoyed the heat and ease of operation. They are seriously draft sensitive though, so make sure your chimney is sized appropriately. FWIW, the only major difference I have noticed in our stoves is the volume of wood you can put in mine compared to his... they both throw out serious heat, mine just maintains the high heat longer. Both of us can carry coals for what seems forever.

Enjoy your new stove!
