Ordered an Englander 30-NCH from Home Depot tonight. $649 + $31ish in tax for a total of $681.45

Pretty good price for such a large stove - with very good reviews on this forum.

This stove will go in the basement of my new addition when it is complete. This stove was not on my list of stoves to consider, but the price and positive opinions on this forum swayed me to give one a try. I had consedered a Dutchwest XL Cat, PE Summit Classic, another Woodstock Keystone and a Woodstock Fireview too.

In the end, with the big $$$'s I am shelling out for this addition, I felt trimming the stove budget was the way to go for now. If we like it, we will keep it. If not, I should think I could sell it for about what I paid, but not for a larger loss that may have done with a more expensive stove - we'll see.

I didn't order a blower, I may rig-up something for much less $$$'s.

Thanks for eveyones advice/opinions on this stove and the posts of Home Depot marking the down so much. I've still got the Keystone and it is staying in our living room - soon to be a more formal living room and the 30-NCH being a basement/den install on the other end of the house.

Thanks again,
Bill

Hey Bill,

As much as I think you would have loved the Dutchwest, I would probably have done the same. It has to be a good stove, with as many happy owners reporting here. The price is unbeatable for a large wood stove. It has to be considered the most bang for your buck! Had I not just bought a used Encore and if it were possible to convince the wife, I'd purchase one myself! Good luck with the new caveman cable install! :cheese:

if you wait another week HD will be marking it down to about $600. I just talked to the manager at my local HD. He said they all do this - of course each manager may have his/her own timetable depending on local climate.

I have a 30 and the best advice I can give you is to use DRY wood, get coal shovel for scooping the ashes out -forget the ash pan. Also if you can find a coal save it will help separate ash from remaining hot coals.

If you learn this stove you will always have hot coals in the morning and never have to have a cold start.

Its a great stove you will have no remorse for buying it.

Hi, Johnny-come-leeave96. Did you get the free shipping? It was still there last time I checked. Great deal on a (reportedly) great stove.

I haven't ruled out a Dutchwest or another Woodstock down the road. This basement needs some heat and the way the stairs is designed, heat ought to come-up to the main floor fairly easily, and certainly with the help of a fan. The good news is that I can get some quality heat on the cheap for now.

THIS ENGLANDER HAD BETTER BE AS GOOD AS BROTHER BART CLAIMS ............. ;)

Yeah, I went on the site last night and this morning. HD says free shipping on orders over $249 in my neck of the woods. Price is still advertised as $649.

One thing that concerns me about this stove is the secondary burn vs a cat.

My Woodstock Keystone can take wood from cold stove to blazing hot. If my timing is off with the Keystone and I just want to top off the stove before hitting the sack for the night and the stove is roaring away - no problem. I load it, damper down and let it cruise away. From what I read, that is a receipe for an overfire on these secondary burn tube type stoves - so I will need to be more careful.

Thanks,
Bill

you will enjoy the stove. I just commented to the wife how much I have enjoyed the 30 this winter. We heat a 73 year old school house with ours, 12' ceilings and big old windows, not a problem. Dry wood is key, I'm finding 18-20%. Welcome to the club, you might get a t-shirt. :cheese:

Congrats on the new stove Bill. I'm not a big fan of the looks of those Englanders but they seem to be a great deal that's hard to pass up.

The only way you won't like it is if you don't like the looks. It will decaffeinate give you plenty of heat.

I plan on using the stove in my basement/den next fall. The price was the deal breaker for the other stoves I was considering - hadn't even thought about an Englander.

If we like the way it looks - it will be a long term burner for us. If not, then we will use it in a planned workshop I am going to try to build in a few years, else we will just sell it and re-coup some of the $$$'s.

This move will also give me some time to see how the new Woodstock stove pans out and maybe the re-designed Fireview. In addition, I have never burned on of the non-cat type stoves. It should be an interesting experience.

Thanks,
Bill

My Englander 30-NCH was delivered today. Promptly put it in storage until my addtion if done.

It is definately different in style from my Woodstock Keystone, but I am looking forward to it's firepower, large firebox and of course love the price I paid.

Thanks!
Bill
