I just installed an 1800 sq ft pleasant hearth stove. I am having trouble shutting off airflow to firebox even when I close the slider. The fire settles down a little but I can still hear air being pulled in. Is this normal? Is there some type of gasket on a draft slider that could be missing? Thanks

As far as I can tell the draft control only controls the air to the top secondary tubes. The bottom air source seems to be just an open tube. I just put mine in about a month ago though and am still learning how to use it, getting better though.;)

haus welcome to the forum. Since it is a new install I am assuming it is a new stove. If that is correct and it is an EPA registered stove then yes. With new stoves you can NOT completely shut down the air so it doesn't surprise me that you can hear the air. If you can control the fire, most likely not a gasket issue. Do the dollar bill test to be sure.

I also have a Pleasant Hearth Air Control Question.....................

I have been using the stove for about a month and for the most party it is working OK, I do not notice any difference in the flame or the embers when I either pull out(open?) or push in(closed?) the control valve. It feels as if the rod is not connected to anything. I have more luck with leaving the door open slightly when starting up.

I spoke with customer service at pleasant hearth and didn't get a lot from that conversation other than they tell me the control valve is open when pulled out.

Any suggestions or assistance would be appreciated.

Thx in advance,
Bob Pearson

p.s. Would someone be kind enough to tell me what the dollar bill test is?

I can't help you on how to fix the valve if it's broken, but I can definately feel a conection on mine and see a change in the flames. Though right now I'm down to my junk wood so I've pretty much had to run it wide open to keep a good flame going these last couple weeks. Sure wish the weather would break up here!
