Thanks to all of you on this forum for your advice last year. The biggest thing I took away from my time spent here was the value of truly seasoned firewood. I vowed last year that I would not go into the winter this year without next years wood being C/S/S. I am happy to say I made it and may even have 2013's wood put up before winter. I took a couple shots of my hard work. The 7-13 month old stack is 6 cords of mostly maple and the fresh stack is 7 cords of oak and locust. Thanks again to all. I can't wait to enjoy dry firewood.

Nice work Derek. Looks like your stacks will have no shortage of wind and sun.

At SolarAndWood - Thanks. Yes, I have plenty of wind and sun out there. I am starting to drool over how nicely last years leftover wood is looking. Your signature says it all. Now that I am 2+ years ahead I hope to never get behind again. I'd even buy some wood if I started to slip.

A very impressive stack, good work.

Very Nice... Oooh,, Ugh.... Large Stacks of Wood (Making Grunting Sound, While Beating on Chest) LOL

Nice work. It takes dedication to get ahead like that.

That looks great man. If I had 13 cords, I would be 6 or 7 years ahead. I have all my wood in little short stacks here and there but that is impressive all together like that.

Looks great Derek

It sure gives you a feeling of pride and accomplishment doesn't it!!

Nice work on your stacks, the enjoyment might start sooner then we want.

Good work, Derek!

Let's hope not. I'd enjoy a longer seasoning season and a shorter freezin'-ing season. :cheese: Might happen here, in the deep south...of Indiana.

Nice work. Now get to work on 3+ years! You sure have the room for it!

Is that one row? And how long is it?

Great job Derek and I really like where you stacked it. I'm not so sure that the oak will be ready in 2 years though. We usually give it 3 years here.

Good job. I bet you will need it. Dont know if I can do that much but this winter I will be busy tryin...

how do you like that FPX 36 Elite?

Smokinjay - No, that is 2 rows. The row on the left is my mostly maple. Some of it was left over from last year and the rest was put up by January 2011. That one is 105 feet long, 18" average split length and average height of 5.25 feet. The row on the right is my oak and locust. It is 102 feet long, 19" average split length, and average height of 5.75 feet.

I'm not giving up Flatbedford. In fact, my neighbor just stopped by the other day and he's got a bunch of 30" diameter oak in 10' lenghts he'd like me to come get out of his yard. I think I might just take care of that for him in the next couple weeks.

I absolutely love the FPX. I did not install it using positive pressure because I built a new house. Instead, I pull my air from the basement where it never gets below 64 degrees. It heats the entire house perfectly. If we run the fan on the central air the whole house is about the same temperature. However, we have found that we prefer to leave the central air off which keeps the bedrooms a little cooler than the living area. We like it cooler when we sleep so this works out perfect for us.

Sweet view . . .

You're such a good neighbor.
I've actually thought of dropping my stacks to about 4.5', just because they like to start the gangsta' lean after a season. I'd then add some length to the row to keep each one
at about 5 cord ( it's about what we use/yr.). Of course, when the new stove gets here (whenever), all this should change.
Dennis, I'll let you know how the 2+ year oak works. The woodshed is full of the oak I c/s/s back in Aug./'09. I re-split a couple pieces and they were at about 16%, if my old school MM is correct.

Good, we'll be looking for a report Dave.

Very nice, hard to tell without some reference...

Well..I took care of the neighbors tree. I do need binoculars now to see the end of the stack.

Derek, we had a fellow not far from us do this very same thing. He has a long driveway that is totally open so stacked right alongside the driveway. I went past not too long ago and see that he either burned it all or sold it. I wonder if he will restock now?

btw, that is a nice stack of wood. You can be proud.
