Well, I did it. There is now an LED TV above my Z42 Kozy Heat fireplace. I bought an extended warranty so we'll see how it goes. I absolutely love sitting here and watching the TV and fire at the same time. I searched this forum and had fore-warnnig. I now want to get the mantle in place to help deflect some of the heat. I'll update this post once in a while. I've got to think with today's technology there is a way to do this type of install with sucess, because it's just too great not to be done.

Did you use an infrared thermometer gun to measure what kind of temps are there? I did that for my flush insert and, what with the mantle and the blower, the temps were quite low up there. Does it take long to get used to looking up at the TV?

I don't have an infrared thermometer and it did not take any time to get used to looking up a little. I bought a tilting TV mount and that helps. I just LOVE it.

I didn't think of the tilting mount. I wonder if that'd help catch the heat.
The fan kicks out and away the heat, I imagine.
Anyway, I can't go wider than 36" wide because our fancy entertainment center, alas.

My friend has his plasma TV over the fireplace, heats with the fireplace a good part of the winter. TV hasn't had any trouble, been like that for 5-6 years at least.

Today's technology on flat screens sucks.

Designed to be throw aways.

Very true.

I have a 48" LCD I bought in 2008. Cost me about $2500.

Can buy same brand and size now for under $1000.

yah, you'll luv it...I have FPX 36 and the blower does most of work, mantle will help with deflection as I barely hit room temp + 5 degrees under the mantle. Here's a pix of my setup, https://www.hearth.com/gall/v/WoodStoves/heartcomfireplace.jpg.html Cords have since been enclosed in the walls, I've raised it about 5 inches off the mantle, and it's a real clean look

Throwaways? The MTBF on my Panasonic Plasma screen is over one hundred years. It should outlast me by most of a century.

Yeah, we need to go back to the flat-screen technology of the 1960s...
