I gotta a sneaking suspition that for Christmas I may be gettin a screen door for my stove. Just over heard some hushed comments the other day. I aint quite sure I want or need one. Anyone of you Jotul owners have one? Maybe it would work well for the early fall or late spring when I just wantta drink beer and look at a far? Any imput?

You probably won't use it much. Maybe for fire place
simulation, like you said, but I sold a couple in the last 4 years,
& MOST of the customers told me it pretty much was a dust collector...

I own three screens. I've never used any of them.

Not sure if I'm the norm or not.

I have one for my F-3. Someone here said I would use it 2 times. I've used it twice and it now sits collecting dust under the stove.

Mine is now on the firepit stove out back.

Seriously, it is a waste of money confirmed by everybody here that has bought one and commented on it in the last five years.

My father bought one for his Defiant back in 1979- total uses since then- 1

It's like putting pedals on a Ferrari- useless

Somehow let them know you want a Blower then you can tell me if they are worth it

i got one with my old earth stove in the shop. put it on once just to see and now it just hangs on the wall. dunno butcher, i know how you guys are with your fires. you and linda may enjoy it like you say. sitting around watch'in the fire with a cold one. if you get one cheap enough or maybe some one here wants to get rid of one.

That's my feeling about screens. You have a high-performance combustion machine-putting a screen on it is totally wasting it's potential.

I should have asked this question. Ninety dollars for doing nothing--it doesn't keep sparks from flying out.

Bought one when I bought my old VC stove. Used it once. Never even considered buying one for the Oslo that replaced the VC. You get less heat from the stove and have a higher risk of smoke spillage into the house. Also, what stops the wood from tumbling into the screen in the Oslo? It doesn't have andirons.

At least I can use the VC screen to screen potting soil or lumpy old cement/mortar. Used it more times for that kind of stuff.

Make sure you get the receipt. Maybe the stove shop will exchange it for something you need.

The screen is one of those things that sounds really good when you hear about it or read about it . . . people start thinking . . . "I could buy a screen and it would turn my woodstove into a fireplace . . . kind of, sort of."

Most folks however soon realize that just running this stove with the already large "glass" view in place is pretty spectacular as is . . . sure you may not hear the crackle of the wood quite so easily . . . but you still get a pretty good visual show . . . and you don't end up wasting a lot of that heat as it quickly vents up the chimney with the screen in place.

Save your money . . . and come up with some other idea for Christmas.

Well, as luck would have it, I got to them sneaky wimminz in my life 'for the ordered a screen door for the stove. In fact the wife had forgot about the idea already I guess. I'ld much rather have socks and teeshirts and long johns than that screen door anyhows.
Thanks for all the imput on this matter.

Good decision. Might as well put a screen door on a submarine.
