Hi guys, Can I get a new wood stove for under $600.00? My House is 1,344sg feet.

There are not many choices in that range and even fewer that I would install where I sleep (the house). Sometimes you can find the Englander products on clearance specials, but that is not normal pricing. Consider the used market??

Ive seen some at tractor supply and these other big stores for under that price when I was looking. But when I added in all the things like the stove pipe, hearth pad, ect, it added up quite a bit. Research a bit though. Read reviews. Good luck!

I picked up the Timberwolf 2200 1.9 cubic firebox and i heat two level rambler around 1800 sqft. does great. price was 649.99.

I am assuming you have the stove and chimney pipe, or a liner for an existing chimney already? If not you will be surprised to find you may very well spend more on that than a stove itself.

Yes I have it all just need to look at a new stove maybe not sure yet. Only drawback is 8" chimney.

Carolinas are hard to find stoves period. I have picked up both current stoves for around that price. I had to drive for them, but good deals on used stoves are out there. Try looking in surrounding areas, narrow your search to a few brands and models.

I think this is a good plan Stan. Maybe you can sell the old tank for a hundred or two and apply that to a modern stove. The 8" pipe might work, depending on how it is routed and how tall the chimney is. Can you provide a description?

I like the Timberwolf suggestion by firehappy if that price is still good.

Bought 2 NC -30s this year one in feb and one in sept ,paid $669 and $649 resp. If you can find them they are a steal at that price. Will look for an NC-13 at the end of the season foe About $500.

Hi WoodpileOCD I don't want to sound like a broken record. I just don't have the money to buy and fix up a wood stove. Is the Century Heating a good wood stove? I have seen many around.

Ok guys, I am just concerned if I put any more money in to the 52 It want fix the stove. It was date tested 4/85 so it is and old stove and Appalachian is not a good Co. I need to find a new stove or one I will not have fix. Money is real tight, Buy stove or pay bills. winter is coming and this house get really cold. Last year it was 58* and 65* in the day wail the chimney was on order. I went from Dec-spring with out the wood heat. the power bill was really high due to use electric space heaters.

Century has been around for a while. They are inexpensive, but functional stoves that get the job done. I would prefer to see you with an EPA stove that would burn much cleaner and will save you a lot of wood year after year. But the one advertised would do it for this winter if it hasn't been abused. Or you could just continue to burn in the current stove, maybe adding a pipe damper to reduce stack losses. If that allows you to save up enough money to buy a proper stove in late January/February when the big box stores start clearing out inventory, then that may be a reasonable approach.

We do have to have a EPA stove. I am just not able to do the work for a non-EPA stove.
Can I all so use like furnace cement to seal the ash pan, windows until I get the new stove.
How will do the non-cat stove hold up to a cat stove?

What I meant is that as the stove is being used now, it is essentially a non-EPA stove. Normally the ashpan and stove glass is gasketed. If there is leakage there the gasketing should be replaced.

I get it now. I understand now. Need to talk the wife in buying the gasketes for it.

Gaskets are pretty small bucks unless there is some sort of specialty. Lots of the box stores sell generic sized pretty cheap.

Just trying to give you some leads man. What makes you think this stove needs to be 'fixed up" after 2 years as the ad states. You said in your 'burn w/o cat' thread that it would take you 4 months to save up $400 for the cats but now you have $600 for a new stove? ?? Don't know what else might be wrong with the stove you have but seems to me like putting cats in that one would be your best option. I think that was expressed a couple times in that thread.

At this point, I'm not really sure what you're looking for from us.

No I do not have $600 for a stove. Just wanted to get a ball park price to look for a stove so I can start saving the money up for it. As for the Century Heating I can get it right now at Northern tools for $475 New or from CL $400 used. As for what make me think this stove need to be fixed, My luck would be it needs to be fixed up.

I called http://www.servicesales.com/ today to get a quote on the cats and gaskets for my stove and the guy scared me. The price was not bad $245.19 for every thing. The sales guy said that it is easy to overfire the stove. On my model they is no good place to put a temperature gauge. In 98 Appalachian put a hole in for a cat temperature gauge and that is the only way to make sure you not overfire the stove. Overfire the stove can lead to warp damper housing, door. How do you know if it is warped. After I got of the phone I thought "wonder if I can get replacement the the damper housing and the door" I text my wife to see if we can get the cats and gaskets and she said we have bills to. I may have $50 to spend on the stove. I have to get and 8" brush, Gaskets, cats, M meter, And chimney pipe.
