I know there's getting to be a few Chinook owners out there and hoping to get some feedback from them.

I have a BKK ultra and love it. A friend just spent a few days here and noticed that while the house was nice and warm nobody ever seemed to feed the fire, after a discussion on how that works she has decided a BK is the way to go. The catch is it will be installed in a living space of only about 1,000 sq ft, well insulated, in the Idaho panhandle.

I'm sure either model will be way more than enough and a window will usually be open but wonder if the Chinook does have significantly less BTU output at low burn. They both have about the same sized firebox and BK claims a 30 hr burn for the Chinook and 20 for the Princess which would seem to suggest that. The website shows a low burn output # for the Princess but I don't see the same info for the Chinook. We will make a call to BK but wonder if anybody here with real world experience has some input.

Thanks!

Personally, I really like the looks of the Chinook. I would have one if I hadn't gotten such a good price on the King.

I think either one would be overkill. Maybe look into a smaller Woodstock or wait til next year when Blaze King comes out with their smaller 1.8 cu ft stoves.

Todd, any info on that smaller BK? I've seen it mentioned a few times but don't know where the rumor started.

I'd go with the Princess shouldn't be an overkill issue,I'd rather have the output capacity and not need it,then need it and not have it. You can always load less than a full load,although BK doesn't endorse this practice ,I've done it many times and got the desired results.Last night windy very rainy about 42 degrees 3 hickory splits burned almost 20 hours kept my house at 73. Hope this helps.

The BK VP told me the new 1.8 cu ft Chinook would be out very soon this year and another 1.8 cu ft more traditional style stove should be out Early next Spring. They are testing them as we speak. 20 hour burns with 30lb loads of Larch. Pretty impressive me thinks.

1000 sq ft well insulated house doesn't need a 3-4 cu ft stove. Too much stove, it would even look too big in a small home imo.

Between the two, I would choose the Chinook, as it is a convection design, and I think would help prevent the overpowering effects of radiant heat the Princess would put out. However, if not in a hurry, the new models sound like they are made for this install. I have an old BK Royal Heir, which is I believe 1.7 cu. ft. and get 12 hour burns with no problem, heating a larger space.

Either should be fine.
I'm in 792 sq/ft with a chinook.

I doubt even a king would overpower my house. The king is only 8k BTU if I recall, which is slightly more than a 1500 watt space heater.
I have math posted on the chinook, estimating min btu output somewhere. It was slightly lower than the princess, yes. But it was all estimates based on max wood load and the princess's btu output... then double checked by doing the math with the firebox capacity instead.
Chinook comes standard with blowers by the way. It's included in the price, even though it says "optional" it's actually included. Pick whichever one matches your decor... :p Chinook with ash pan out in NY was $4300 for a reference. Yours should be quite a bit cheaper...

edit;
BK wouldn't tell me actual numbers on the Chinook, if you get some real numbers post them up! I'm curious.
