Our main floor fire place sits at a 45 degree in the corner, fully enclosed by the chase. Because the stove is rectangular in a triangular shaped chase, there’s a large triangular open spot behind the stove.
We are getting ready to finish our basement, and it would be nice to have a stove down there. Assuming there’s proper clearance, is it likely that we could pass the chimney pipe from the basement stove thru this gap? Would that pass code?
If possible it would prevent having to have an exposed exterior pipe. At the cost of reconfiguring the chimney cap.....Unless the lower stove can wye into the existing pipe. That would make it easier.
