Had a question about some of the larger older stoves that have an 8 inch outlet. Can these be safely connected to a 6 inch stove pipe? I would rather build a 6 inch chimney due to cost.
To ask the same question in reverse can a 6 inch outlet be connected to an 8 inch metal chimney?
The chimney is not yet built. I recently built a pole barn and will be installing a wood stove.
Thanks, George

They can be but in most cases it wont work well either way. Your best bet would be 7". Most old 8" stoves run really well on 7" and modern 6" stoves do fine to
