Last evening as I said good night to our youngest two children as is our habit I went to flick the thermostat switch to turn the fan on for the night. WE use it for the combination of air circulation and the kids have grown accustomed to falling asleep to the hum of the fan.

I was puzzled by the fact that nothing happened when I moved the small lever to on.

Then it hit me ...... First thing yesterday morning I had turned off the furnace at the breaker panel to be able to check the fan and element area out as I hadn't looked in their since early fall.

I hadn't remembered to turn it back on. That is the mistake part given that the temperatures outside yesterday were well below freezing... Like 15 degrees below.

Between our South windows and our little woodstove we didn't even notice that the furnace was off.

Maybe I should make this mistake more often.

Yes sir the solar gain is really begining to make a difference !!! Gotta love good mistakes like that.

Strange how things work out sometimes. A mistake turns out to be a good one!

I am beginning to wonder if I should be turning down or turning off my furnace more often and running the stove a little more diligently?

If I was fully retired or never left my home office for meetings or outside work it would be fun to see how little electricity I could get away with.

We lived in a mobile home for 6 years and after the first month I installed a wood stove. I went to the breaker panel and flipped off the furnace and never turned it back on till we moved. It turned out to have one coil out and a temp sensor out, furnace guy replaced the parts and charged me $125.00 for the whole works. I have not been able to get back to only wood heat yet because of all the moving around.
