I'm ready to add another 500 gals of storage to my system . Its sitting there full of cold water and I was thinking of isolating the other 500 gal . tank "which is online" at the lowest temp. I can get it to. then vent the pressure off the expansion tanks put the additional tank online ,pressurize to 12psi and heat to the same temp as the other tank then open the other tank to the system.

Would this work ok.

That should work OK. If anything If your tank isn't all the way cooled maybe add a couple psi to the exp. tank so the water
won't flood it.
