Holy sh!t !
you better hope Dexter doesn't see this!
On a side note. That thing looks crazy. Thinking mechanical spider on ceiling.
On a serious note, Dempsey has been here long enough and read enough to understand the rights and wrongs. Is the wrong?? No. Is it right?? No.
But does it work??? If it works and he feels he has taken every possible step to ensure its a safe system. Then by all means, the new named "Code Police" will step down.
Making sure the Newb's that come in the door dont do something like that , without taking into account, every single thing that must be done, to do it safely.
I didnt want to install my Fahrenheits Duct because I read in the manual, that the duct had to be rated for 250*. My heart dropped. I thought I was gonna have to have a Pro do it. Well I called the place that made my system and they told me that Certainteed Ultraduct Gold is in fact rated for 250*.
Thank God. I didnt know any better, I must have skipped that temp in the manual. But seeing it last week, made me think I was gonna have to have a seperate duct system made for it.
Not knockin Dempsey. Never knocked on Jay or Don. If the system works. And you know you have taken all possible steps? And if you were in the mood, "possibly" show the local Fire Chief or inspector, just to have peace of mind.
People are gonna do what they do. Making sure they know the safest way to do the job, is something that just naturally comes from this site. Whether I call them out, or another member (there are quite a few). Just want them to know the facts. Made me feel good when Smoke called me out.
If you do know the question, you'll never find the answer. Alright. Im done. Good job jdempsey. You learned how hard it is to heat from the basement. Going forward, you know you need a Stove upstairs, or better yet, a Furnace of some sort (Sorry BTW). Lessons in life. We all learn them.
