So are heath shields common? The Jutol Castine I'm looking at makes no mention of a mantel/upper trim shield to reduce clearance. I hope to be able to use a shield to reduce the required clearance of 23 inches to 13 inches on my top trim. From my research on this great forum it appears a shield allows a 50-66% reduction in the required clearance. I'm about a 1/2'' short of clearance on the side trim and will monitor that to see if it requires a shield.

Any expert advise?

Since you didn't give a model here is info on a Jotul F 400 Castine

Manual

Thanks Dave_1, I guess being a newbe I'm looking for a little confirmation that my plan will work or some suggestions. Before I go buy the Jotul F400 Castine.

The 66 & 50% clearance reductions are from NFPA 211. I've been thru the Castine manual and have a copy of NFPA 211. I think I'll be ok.
