I was just wondering, what effect does the auger trim have? Does it help with keeping the auger from jamming?

To answer your question quickly, no, it has really nothing to do w/ jamming. It helps control the feed rate of your pellets. On some stoves it only affects the lowest or lowest 2 settings.
Different brands/types of pellets may require different feed rates, hence you can adjust the trim, or speed if you will, depending on the type/brand of pellet you're using.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong please, but that's how I read it.
