i know black walnut makes for some great lumber but im wondering if anyone has had some luck with the stuff as firewood

Dries up well also. You won't be disappointed to have walnut in your stack.

I like it just fine. I have burned a lot of it. It really seems to offgas more than your average hardwood when thrown in a hot stove. I get flames shooting out of the end of the log. Smells OK, and splits pretty easily.

I burnt some scraps from a woodworking project in the chiminea and the smoke coming out was black.

Burns well but I found it takes longer then average to season in my experience.
Burned a ton of it years ago when my buddy cleared his property. Easy to cut split and stack, burns well. Oak is better, Maple (silver/ swamp) not as good.
Burns good, mine made lots of ash. No big deal just had to remove ashes more frequently.
