No, VC uses pressed ceramic wool for their box, just like your Jotul. I made mine entirely out of Skamol and refractory cement. The screws were just to hold it all together till the cement dried.

Interesting. Making the box would be easy enough, and I see they sell cement products specifically for use with their insulating boards. The bigger challenge would be finding which material might give the right combo of strength and R-value, since they make a whole product range.
