Question:

I have seen vented gas logs made of both cement and ceramic materials. Is one better and worth paying more?

Answer:

Neither is worth more. Cement logs are usually more decorative, and they can be cast easier, while the spun rock wool ceramic ones are very lightweight and can often glow where the fire hits them . However, neither is "better" than the other in everyday use.
