Have one of these in the new place I moved into. Did a little looking and it seems they are a wood burning fireplace.
Mine has gas run to it, not really sure how well the pipe will hold up over time. Or about the hole where the pipe comes through. Is this common? Or something the previous owner added, knowing they would never burn wood?
It had never been lit prior to me owning it.

Looks to be a Log Lighter. It uses the flames from the burn
tube to ignite the firewood on the grate above it.
Very common...

I suppose it wouldn’t be hard to change the pipe if it started getting thin over the years.

Not that uncommon, especially if logs are thrown into the fireplace and bang against the panel.
