Question:
We have a coal stove that uses anthracite rice coal. Is the dust from this stove dangerous to us? Also can the ash from this coal be mixed in the garden?
Answer:
It is not good to breathe a LOT of dust of ANY kind from any source. For the casual user- however- the dust from hard coal has never been proven dangerous. The ash from coal stoves contains some heavy metals such as mercury and is not a balanced mix for the garden (wood ash is OK)...I always place my coal ash on a dirt or gravel driveway or else in the trash....
