We always hear about the importance of keeping the convection/room air fans clean as part of your routine maintenance schedule. Aside from its purpose to move its designed capacity of air (rated in CFM's -cubic feet per minute) through the inside of the heat exchanger tubes, what is/are the other major advantages of keeping your convection/room air fan clean?

indoor air quality
and if you dont clean it you will have to shell out some money to replace it.
The motors overheat were they are packed with house dust and pet hair.

forgot when they get unbalanced because of dust build up they make noise

If they get gummed up bad enough your stove will overheat and shut down and all during the time it takes for them to get that bad the less heated air you'll get to heat your house or favorite room with.

Good answers, all of them. Much like the radiator in your car, the convection fan forcing air across the heat exchanger tube nest carries away the heat as Smokey mentions above. Aside from heating the room, it carries away excess heat from the stove. A dirty convection fan will not force enough air across the heat exchanger tubes thus the temperature of the stove will increase well above normal and may trip the hi-temp switch and shut down the stove. Allowing the stove to get this hot will eventually take its toll on each periphery component and possibly that high dollar control board.

Keeping these stoves clean and well maintained will ensure a long economical service life.
