Tansao, I hope you're not like some folks who've gotten the SS X27 and are never heard from again...oh my goodness, what if he got a cousin saw to that sinister axe??!!! There should be an X-Files investigation into some of these happenings. Folks have to realize people are coming up missing!!! Obama needs to form a committee and appoint some czars to study this!!!!!

Tansao...are you out there???? If so, tap three times on the inside of my monitor screen...

LOL!

Sorry, been a busy couple of days. And, I am torn between buying and borrowing vs. the investment of a new saw to call my own amid paying for my new insert. That and I want to ensure I'll have an adequate supply to scrounge/cut to make the investment worthwhile. I hope to cut 5-7 cord a year for burning but not sure where I'm going to score that quantity of wood.

My boss is letting me borrow a Stihl (not sure what model - it's now in my truck and I didn't look), and my father in law has an old Partner that is pretty heavy and cuts well. I would be averse to buying used, because most folks don't take care of a once in a while use item like a chainsaw (I'm the only one in my neighborhood who even has one!).

Sorry about the HD and Husqvarna thing - I should have done some research before taking someone's word. I knew they were a Swedish Co.

In that price range, you can get a refurbished Husky 455 or 450 from eeebay, or keep an eye out locally for a good used Stihl or Husky around 50-60cc.

I'd be afraid to buy a used small engine unless I knew and trusted the seller. It's too easy to make a worn out engine run long enough to make the sale (especially if the buyer doesn't know what to look for).

They sell them by the boatload in the Big Box stores. Guys buy'em for a tree down in the yard & take'em back next week for full refund. Get sent back to a husky dealer for a check-up & voila, "Re-furbished". No guarantees of that, but mine didn't have a scratch plus brand new cutting gear and a 1 year warantee (from some dealer 500 milles away not worth too much I guess). Anyway these shouldn't be heavily used.

I agree.. They are the same saw other than the color of the plastic as the Dolmar PS-510. Dolmar owns Makita chain saw division.

Right on.If you got a good saw thats adjusted correctly with sharp chain, even a slightly heavier or older one, that makes your work so much easier. IMO its worse to have a saw thats underpowered than one thats a bit bigger.

+1 hp and cc are the most important factor after you decide what wood you cut most often. Nothing worse than getting caught with the knife at the OK Coral!
