Is there already a thread out there regarding a defiant dissasembly and reassembly. I'm running a 1610 defiant that is in need of a top gasket, shoe refractory, and fire back. Thanks!

A rebuild on this stove is not cheap and not known for lasting that long. This could be about $1000 in parts. How long has it been since the last rebuild?

not sure. I've lived in the house 4 years. Just got into cleaning the stove, and noticed I need a top gasket, and damper gasket. Fireback has a hairline crack. Might just furnace cement that, if I can

I will see if I can find a rebuild thread. There is also a VC owners thread. The 1610 was not a well-loved model. If you search on 1610 you will see what I mean.

Here is the rebuild kit. I think there may be instructions that come along with it.

In case they don't there are some pics in this thread

Is the stove used a lot in winter? Has the stove performed well in the past 4 yrs.?

I use it all winter. Have been burning 4 cord. Keeps open concept first floor toasty, and upstairs bedrooms to 70°. I like the stove personally, I just realized that parts of the top gasket have slipped out, and the damper gasket is flat. Being airtight again, just might be more efficient.

I ended up going through the stove and taking inventory of what I needed. I did not go with the rebuild kit, beacuse the fire back was in good condition, and I didn't think it was necessary to get a whole new damper. I did need a fountain assembly and the shoe assembly. Still not cheap. I got those parts through Mountain View Hearth in Montana. They had the parts shipped to me almost immediately. The stove was back together and running in a few days. Got all my rope gaskets from a local stove shop. Their supplier did not have the other parts in stock that I needed. Figured I would get some pics up for everyone of the rebuild. She's been running great for a month now. I won't be doing that again. Possibly looking into a Jotul F55 in the future.
Happy Turkey Day to all!

Nice work. Is that fireback cemented?
