Hi there SC, This is something I tried 2 yrs ago ( painted my single wall pipe ) I used high temp flat black stove paint and within a couple of weeks it looked about the same again, ugly! Had to deal with the smell again also for a couple days wile burning the stove. No success here, but if there is a paint or something else that works someone on here will post it.

What's with the caulk? Stovepipe associated with a woodburner shouldn't need caulk...beyond maybe some furnace cement in the joints if desired, but that just kinda disappears down into the joint if applied properly...paint wouldn't make any difference. If you're talking about Class A chimney pipe, then no caulk whatever should be involved. Need more info. A picture would be invaluable. Rick
