Does the Cap, on top of my Chimney, become coated faster than the rest of my piping? I wondered that because of a comment in another thread.

It would seem to make some sense, since the smoke is forced to divert direction at that point.

I guess I'm just wondering if the "Cap" needs more of a vigilant "watching" than the rest of the system. Any merit to having IT checked more frequently, (say, mid-winter?)?

Many areas have local codes that require a spark screen, and these can become plugged relatively quickly. The first sign is usually sluggish draft.

My spark screen gets cruddy very quickly, even while the rest of the pipe is fine. I would expect the cap to be first and worst when it comes to how quickly and badly creosote builds up in a properly run system.

its the coldest part of the chimney so yes.
