I think I'm finally to the point that I need to clean out the smoke stack on my EKO 40. I have zero creosote and overall it's very, very clean. I have one tee connection outside my house where I transition from my basement stack to 24' of vertical chimney. If possible I'd like to clean this out with a vacuum from inside the basement intead of actually removing the cleanout from the tee.

I'm consideirng buying a drywall filter for my shop vac and a 12' extension hose to do the job. I really don't want to buy a dedicated ash vac for this job since I'll only need to do it once every 4-5 years.

Anyone have any luck and/or problems running shop vacs to clean up a little flyash here and there? Anyone figure this will be a complete waste of time?

Put the vac outside and run the hose in thru a window - even if you have to get a bunch of hose. I have never been able to get something like flyash to stay completely inside my vac - and it can make a heck of a mess.

I run a HEPA filter on my VAC and it seems to do the trip.
