Question:
What is your opinion of a brand called MONESSEN? Have you heard anything about vented logs causing soot inside the home?
Answer:
Any vented logs will cause soot in the home if the chimney is not updrafting...or not updrafting enough....just like a wood fire would do the same thing. It is important for the homeowner to make certain that a draft is established. A good way is to run the logs with the damper fully open- and hold a candle or a match up close to the top of the fireplace opening (on the outside)...If it is sucked in toward the fireplace- a good draft exists. Then- you could experiment by closing the damper part of the way..If it's still sucked in..then it's probably OK.
