Harman "whistle".....here what fixed it for me

stove had a whistling noise this morning, noticed it when it was feeding pellets, i knew it wasnt the fines box bc i had cleaned that out over the weekend, thought back on my cleaning routine and realized that ive been neglecting the slide plate area in the hopper, wasnt much left in there so i took out the remaining pellets and could see there was just to much fines around the plate, quick vacuum and the problem was solved. just one of the cleaning steps i let slip by for a few cleanings and it let me know

simple remedies are always appreciated. i had a similar squeaking noise from my slide gate and penetrating oil fixed it.

I had a customer make the same complaint on a P-61. I found the hopper seams needed resealed with silicone from the inside.

I get a whistle sometimes too. Why would vacuuming the bottom of the hopper where the slide plate is eliminate the whistle?

Vacuum will be felt in the hopper, older units had the vacuum orifice located there. A yellow looking plastic thingy. There is also a rope gasket at the meeting of the feeder assy and the hopper.

sometimes the whistle can be louder in a unit low on pellets as well....sucking air thru the hopper seams or gasketing

it seems if there is to much fines in that area it get compacted in the slide plate and now the metal is rubbing against it creating the noise, kinda like when a pellet gets jammed in the auger....thats what i have found anyway

Oh. That noise I have heard been described as a squeal. Not a whistle. When I think of a whistle I think more of an air noise.

Eric, I hear a whistle from time to time on my P-61, sounds like it is coming from the hopper area. Hear it especially when the stove first ignites, for about 5-10 sec. When the hopper is empty i have noticed the excess silicone is pulling away from the metal a bit, but looks ok in the seams. I have wondered about resealing in the past, and came across your post. Just wondering how you went about it? I'm getting a bit of a tall lazier than normal flame on the right side of my burnpot sometimes as well, which leads me to think there is an airleak somewhere. Replaced the ashbin door gasket, and glass door gasket seems fine.

empty the hopper and using silicon, do not be stingy, coat the seems.
