I have an Regency I2400 insert and need to extend the hearth out to 18"

Was going to extend the brick but we just did the kitchen with Soapstone countertops ( love it) and the
contractor suggested using an extra slab of this instead.

I have read great things about Soapstone stoves, any thoughts on effectiveness safety ease of use etc of
the Soapstone? I would think it would soak up the heat and be very safe??

I think that the extended hearth must now be 20" nationally in the USA (including Maine) to meet code, and 18" only in Canada?? Perhaps another member will confirm or contradict that?? Can't help you with soapstone though..sorry.
