Hello, I am looking at a house with the hearthstone I in it. It is a huge stove. Anyone know the facts on this one? How many BTU's? How many square feet does it do? is it catalic or not? And most of all is it a good stove?

It was one of Hearthstones first models. I don't recall if it was EPA rated and if I rember right it was around 100k btu's and weighed in the 750# range. That stove was before my time but my father in law put a few in.

Wow, so it is that old. This stove looks brand new in this house. It is gorgous.

Hearthstone makes a quality product. Look in side the stove at the top of the firebox and see if there are tubes with holes drilled in them. If there are then it was EPA rated. Even not being EPA rated it is still a decent stove.

If I get this house I will have to post some pictures. I can not believe this stove is going on 30 years old. It looks like it came from the factory yesterday.

Sounds like a nice stove. Love to hear about any other experience with it.

Stove may have been EPA exempt in later years due to size or air control....which means it may have been manufactured up to the mid-90's or so. But chances are that it is just lightly used.

When heavily used, these beasts can need some parts at this point....often a complete rebuild. But you would know this by an inspection of the inside (lots of warping of the baffles, etc.)

Well I read the back of the stove and it was tested in 1983 so I would take it that is the year of the install. It also said on the back of the stove that it was catalytic. anything else I should know about this stove?

The Hearthstone I was not catalytic. This may be another model which I forget the name of offhand.
