Id cut the power somehow to the oil boiler so no one can accidentally turn it on. Since you dont use it often.
I ran out of oil...and not how you think.

I have the emergency switch on the side of the furnace shut off. That was my original problem. I always keep it shut off but must have forgot last summer when I exercised it....
