    Question:

I have some seasoned red cedar logs cut from from 1999 storm damage. Is southern red cedar OK to burn in my wood fireplace ? I have been told that I should not burn cedar, yet I have seen cedar chips advertised for kindling.

    Answer:

It is OK to burn, however you have to watch for a few things. Some cedar can tend to "pop" and spit little embers when it is burning, so make certain you have a good screen. Cedar can also burn very hot and quickly if dry, so best to mix the logs with others.

With these tips, it should burn fine.
