Recently bought a house and the prior owners included the wood stove, Jotul model 118B. It appears to be in good shape. However, as I checked it against the manual, I found it is missing the bottom burn plate. Fire bricks line the interior bottom of the stove instead. Is this acceptable and will it change the performance much? I've located a replacement part but it will be some time before it is available.

It'll probably work if the bricks fit tightly, though this may affect the hearth heating. Worth watching temps underneath the stove for a bit. Is the stove on a decent hearth?
I'm curious about why the bottom plate was removed?
