Question:

We are interested in the Jotul line and specifically the Firelight but have been told that this stove is going to be discontinued. The new model will not have catalytic converter. Can you please verify the veracity of this information and answer why Jotul is discontinuing its catalytic converters.

Answer:

It is true that a non-cat Jotul Firelight is now available.

A non-cat costs less to make than a cat, and it also may not be as sensitive to a low draft situation. The new Jotul has side loading as opposed to the top=loading of the cat model.

Bottom line, you'd probably be happy with either model. Read the articles at https://www.hearth.com/what/specific.html about cats and non-cats and then make an informed decision.
