I have never cleaned the vent pipe which goes up 6 ft above my roof.Any suggestions as to when this should be cleaned and can I do it myself I am thinking that maybe it should be cleaned before the burn season.

Check your clean out tee...never hurts to do a cleaning...I all depends on type of fuel...you'll notice...a couple inches of black soot in the bottom of the cleanout would tell be to run a brush through it...it never hurts to start the season clean....

Clean it every year. Besides soot you don't know what else has gotten in there, birds, hornets, squirrels, mice, snakes...
