Sounds like your doing a very thorough job. The leaf blower, or should I say sucker, is a man thing that is done mainly to see a big plume of black soot shooting into the environment.

Hey I do it to give Al Gore nightmares, and all of my Polar Bear friends want things to be a bit warmer north of 60, seems winter can be a real nasty thing up there and they liked it better when there were palm trees along the lake shores.

I borrowed an electric Toro leaf blower last weekend. Did my usual weekend full cleaning then went outside and removed the exhaust pipe down to the house. I spent a 1/2 hour in the am adapting a 4" Fernco to the suck side of the leaf blower. Then went outside and set up a step ladder to hold up the leaf blower and duct taped it to the exhaust pipe. Also taped 8' of dryer duct to the end of the leaf blower to direct the soot to where I wanted it. Ran an extension cord inside to a power strip near the stove. When I was all set I had my 4 y/o flip the switch for me (he was dying to help out) and...nothing. The blower didn't work. Tried another extension cord and another outlet, but nothing. I borrowed a bum blower. Kind of a let down. Like this story.

One the plus side I did find a fair amount of ash in the horizontal part of the tee and the stove is running like a top, even without the blower trick.

Well I guess you never did the leaf blower trick on your stove!!!!
You wouldn't say its a man thing if you saw how well it actually cleans the ash out of the stove.

I use a rake for leaves and a shop vac to clean the stove exhaust vent. I think the leaf blowers in general are a bit of overkill and not a good example to our children or the community.

I think enough has been said on this issue. If you guys have an inalienable right to bear arms I think you have the same right to connect your leaf blower where you like. Leaf blowers, school buses coal fired power plants and autos all hurt the enviornment and there's not much we can do about it indivudually. I think us pellet burners on both sides of the border are doing more than most to make the air better.

Think of it this way...if that little cloud of soot (that gets MUCH smaller after the first cleaning btw) helps keep the stove cleaner and operting more efficiently then you will burn fewer pellets keeping the demand for pellets down, trucks off the road that won't have to deliver them, pellet plants won't have to use electricity that was generated by burning wood/coal/gas 9or use nuclear fuel) in order to produce the pellets. You'll keep more folks home that don't have to drive to the pellet plant to make 'em since your stove is using fewer pellets... that little puff of smoke actually helps keep the planet clean.
